Anchoring the month of fashion weeks is no easy feat, but Paris has never shied away from the challenge. With the longest line-up of presentations (beating out even NYFW) and arguably some of the largest scale productions, there’s a LOT to take in. From the season’s newfound artistic inclinations, to some “fringe benefits,” we’ve distilled the best-of-the-best from The City of Lights.
Theme: Strokes of Genius
Stippled and dabbed with brush stroke motifs, top collections in Paris unleashed a parade of painterly-prints that brought artisan edge to the season’s presentations.
Theme: Les Petites Bourgeoisettes
The baddest little rich girls from the 16th Arrondissement, these chicks are all about flirting with flashy taste on the highest budget.
Color: Royal Flush
The Paris runways radiated true blue for Spring 2014; every hue from cobalt to lapis received the “royal” treatment.
Color: Neutral Territory
A quiet storm was also brewing in the form of soulful neutral tones, often rendered in languid, draped shapes.
Material: Catch Mesh If You Can
Bringing some bite to the sheer trend we’ve seen throughout the other cities’ collections, Paris got all caught up in netted mesh materials.
Print + Pattern: Prints of Provence
The whimsical florals, delicate paisleys, and conversational toile de jouy scenes associated with print-houses from the city’s country-cousin, Provence added whimsically feminine winks to the season’s collections.
Detail: Fringes, Flutters, and Fronds
Tina, Beyoncé, and Cher would be so proud, Mary.
Styling: a Little Choked Up
Forget about long dangling baubles, the news at the shows was all about choker-length necklaces. Gobstopper-chunky elements and cascading closures amped the impact.
Key Item: High Time
We certainly don’t condone getting high and wasted next spring… Wearing high-waisted shorts, on the other hand, is something we can (and will) totally get behind.
Detail: Zip Line Up
We are loving how these boyish bomber and track-style jackets added a sporty ‘tude to the impossibly chic looks at the Paris collections; Stella McCartney hit one of the season’s home-runs, pairing one with a romantic, full-skirted slip-dress.
